ZigZag Club Squat Gig

Zigzag in its hayday
In December 1982 Crass and friends Squatted the Rainbow Venue in Finsbury Park in North London where they planned to hold a 24 hour event. At the last Minute the venue was switched to the former Zigzag Club on Great Western Road. Gazzer from Dirt described the day ‘The Zig Zag was certainly an event. We put out notice that it was to be at the Rainbow Theatre. Then the night before… The Zig Zag was taken over… electric turned on and we were in. I drove the van with the backline in it… Met by police at the door who didnt know what to do… so they did nothing. It was a great day… all the bands and the audience alike were friends by this point… It was a party’ even though Dirt lost their drummer half way through the set and split up afterwards.
