Punks de Myanmar en la cárcel por dos latas de cerveza

 La siguiente declaración fue emitida por la banda punk de Myanmar Rebel Riot con respecto al reciente arresto de dos punks por haber encontrado un par de latas de cerveza:

 “El mercado callejero Lanmadaw Tazaungdine se celebra todos los años en Myanmar.  Este año, realizamos un puesto allí para vender nuestra ropa punk, bolsos y accesorios hechos a mano en el mercado anual.  Para nosotros, este no es solo un lugar para vender cosas, sino también un lugar de solidaridad donde distribuimos semanalmente a personas sin hogar y niños, y trabajadores que recolectan basura y reparan carreteras.  Durante los días del festival, nuestra tienda atrae a muchos clientes y personas que quieren tomarse fotos con nosotros y unirse a nuestra conversación.  Como parte del ambiente del festival, personas de todos los ámbitos de la vida se reúnen para probar diferentes comidas y bebidas, y disfrutar de la música en vivo que viene del escenario.

 Desafortunadamente, en el último día de este festival, algunos policías entraron a nuestra tienda y encontraron algunas latas de cerveza debajo de una mesa de nuestra mercancía.  Nos arrestaron a dos de nosotros por beber sin permiso, aunque esto no fue diferente al comportamiento de muchos otros asistentes al festival.  Nos llevaron a la estación de policía y nos presentaron un caso antes de ser ingresados ​​en una celda.  Los amigos vinieron en nuestro apoyo e intentaron comunicarse con la policía para garantizar que esto no volvería a suceder, pero se les ordenó que se reportaran con el oficial principal del municipio.  Nuestros amigos siguieron estas instrucciones pero se les negó la asistencia y se les dijo que regresaran a la estación de policía original.

 Nuestro caso no es un caso de asesinato, o un caso de violación.  En general, los casos pequeños como el nuestro son perdonables por ley si hay un garante, pero en todos los casos se nos negó este derecho básico como ciudadanos.  No fuimos las únicas personas que consumieron alcohol en el festival, y creemos que hemos sido blanco de discriminación activa.  Además, la policía que nos arrestó no estaba sobria, y uno se tambaleaba de lado a lado mientras caminaba por el mercado callejero.  Si las leyes sobre el arresto de personas que consumen alcohol durante el festival, las celdas de las estaciones de policía no pueden adaptarse a multitudes tan grandes, en particular a los agentes de policía.

 Mientras estábamos detenidos, algunos oficiales nos humillaron por la forma en que nos vestimos, tocando nuestras cabezas de una manera irrespetuosa con las costumbres locales y religiosas, y amenazaron con cortarnos el pelo.  Nos detuvieron en la primera cárcel durante la noche, antes de ser llevados a otra cárcel al día siguiente, y finalmente nos liberaron alrededor de las 5 de la tarde esa tarde.

 Nos gustaría hablar con el público para decir que estamos firmemente en contra de los sistemas que abusan del poder, y reconocemos que hay otros jóvenes, a menudo sin conocimiento de cómo funcionan los sistemas legales, que han sido forzados y amenazados por personas en el poder.  , que a menudo ha resultado en el pago de sobornos.  Tomamos esta posición no por nuestra propia fama o beneficio, sino porque este es un problema continuo para todas las personas alternativas.  El hecho de que tengamos tatuajes, piercings, mohawks, diferentes estilos y gustos musicales no significa que la policía deba arrestarnos por odio.  Para evitar más problemas como este, la policía debe respetar la ley.  El punk, nuestra forma de vida, no es un crimen.  Esperamos que a través del diálogo y la solidaridad podamos construir perspectivas más positivas sobre las personas alternativas en el futuro ".

Myanmar Punks Thrown In Jail For Two Beer Cans

 The following statement was released by Myanmar punk band Rebel Riot in regards the recent arrest of two punks for having a couple beer cans found:

 “Lanmadaw Tazaungdine Street Market is celebrated every year in Myanmar. This year, we held a stall there to sell our handmade punk clothing, bags and accessories at the annual market. For us, this is not only a place to sell stuff but also a place of solidarity where we distribute on a weekly basis to homeless people and children, and workers who collect garbage and repair roads. During the days of the festival, our shop attracts a lot of customers, and people who want to take photos with us and join our conversation. As part of the festival vibe, people from all walks of life gather to try different foods and drinks, and to enjoy the live music coming from the stage.

 Unfortunately, on the final day of this festival, some police officers came into our shop and found some beer cans under a table of our merchandise. They arrested two of us for drinking without permission, although this was no different to the behavior of many other festival-goers. We were taken to the police station, and had a case filed against us before being put into a cell. Friends came in our support, and tried to communicate with the police to guarantee that this would not happen again but were ordered to report to the chief township officer instead. Our friends followed this instruction but were denied assistance, and told to return to the original police station.

 Our case is not a murder case, or a rape case. Generally, small cases like ours are forgivable by law if there is a guarantor but at all instances we were denied this basic right as citizens. We were not the only people consuming alcohol at the festival, and believe that we have been the targets of active discrimination. Furthermore, the police who arrested us were not sober themselves, and one was wobbling from side to side as he walked around the street market. If laws about arresting people consuming alcohol during the festival, the cells of police stations cannot fit such large crowds, particularly including police officers.

 While we were detained, some officers humiliated us for the way we dress, touching our heads in a way disrespectful with local and religious customs, and threatened to cut our hair. We were held at the first jail overnight, before being taken to another jail the following day, and finally being released around 5pm that afternoon.

 We would like to speak to the public to say that we are strongly against systems which abuse power, and we acknowledge that there are other young people, often without knowledge of the way legal systems work, that have been forced and threatened by people in power , which has often resulted in the payment of bribes. We take this position not for our own fame or profit, but because this is an ongoing problem for all alternative people. Just because we have tattoos, piercings, mohawks, different fashion and musical taste does not mean that police should arrest us out of hatred. To avoid further problems like this, police must respect the law. Punk, our way of life, is not a crime. We hope that through dialogue and solidarity we can build more positive perspectives about alternative people in the future.”
